Why do a your CBT Training? and the benefits of learning to ride

Change your life forever! All you need is a provisional licence and a CBT training (Compulsory Basic Training) then you can ride with L plates for two years. Get motorbike lessons started.

Why learning to ride a motorcycle or moped and doing you CBT makes financial sense:

Learning to ride a motorcycling makes great financial sense. How does 120 mpg sound? Easy to park. Easy to get through traffic. Why aren't more people riding? Safety they say. What if you could be taught how to ride motorcycle properly and safely from the beginning, while you receive the necessary motor skills and it's not done in a rush? What if you are really safe from the word go?

You are not just a number to me. You could be one more well trained motorcyclist on the road. One more free soul, enjoying the fun of the open road.

Is CBT Training a Test?

A CBT training (Compulsory Basic Training) is not a bike test but it is a process of learning to ride a motorcycle and a continuous assessment of safety and skill. Learner motorcycle and moped riders must complete CBT training before they can ride a motorcycle on the public road. Holders of a full car licence obtained on or after 1 February 2001 must complete CBT training if they want to validate the full moped entitlement on their licence.

Why CBT One on One training with Willem Louw Motorcycle Instructor is in beneficial:

I will help you attain the following motorbike skills in a safe and calm environment:

Motorcycle theory
Road safely skills.
Correct attitudes towards motorcycling

What does CBT (Compulsory Basic Bike) Training consist of?

CBT training (Compulsory Basic Training) consists of five elements.

What is needed to competently complete my CBT Training?

You will have to complete these five elements in sequence. You will not be able to progress to the next element until you have satisfied me that you are ready to progress. Your safety is of utmost importance to me and that's why I do not automatically guarantee a certificate. Most of my trainees do successfully complete the basic rider course in one day but, it is important to note that you do not have to complete all of the elements of the course in one day. Part of your course is a CBT training (Compulsory Basic Training) record ,which you can use to log and record your progress and completion of each element throughout the basic rider course.

Element A

Basic rider course is an Introduction.

When you arrive, we will discuss helmets, visors, goggles, safety gear (Equipment and Clothing) and how to be visible on the road. Make sure you bring both parts of your driving licence as I will have to check them during this element. I will also check your eyesight. In good daylight you must be able to read a vehicle registration plate (XX50XXX) with letters 79.4mm high at a minimum distance of 20 meters and an older style registration plates (X123XXX) from 20.5 meters. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, you should wear them not only for the eyesight test but also during the course as a whole. If you have had corrective eye surgery, you must inform me. If you fail the eyesight test, the we will not continue with the CBT training (Compulsory Basic Training) course .

Element B

Basic rider course is practical on-site training.

I will teach you the motorcycle controls and basic motorcycle safety checks. I will teach you how to put the motorcycle on its stands and how to wheel the motorcycle around and how to brake to stop. I will also be teach you how to start and stop the engine. This training takes place on my CBT Pad and is off the public highway where you will not be competing with other vehicles or drivers and riders. You will be able to concentrate in a safe, private and dedicated environment and it will make it so much easier to learn.

Element E

Basic rider course is practical on-road riding

This is the final element and this road ride will be at least two hours long. You will be in radio contact. During the road ride you will use the skills taught in the previous elements on the road. I am sure you will enjoy it. You must be able to do a U-turn and stop as if in an emergency on the road.

What happens when the Learner completes or fails the CBT training?

When you have completed all of the elements. I will issue you with a CBT training certificate - DL196.

This certificate is valid for two years.

Remember, you will have to do another CBT if you don't pass your theory and practical motorcycle tests within two years from the date of the DL196.

Do and Don't when successfully completing CBT( Compulsary Basic Training):

Once you have your certificate and a road legal, taxed and insured motorcycle or moped, you're ready to roll! Remember, no pillions, no motorways and get those L Plates on.
